O.S.S.S. Social and Health Care Assistant - Specialization

LEVEL I

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: O.S.S. qualification, completion of the 17th year of age, lower secondary school diploma

COURSE DURATION: 400 hours

QUALIFICATION AWARDED: Professional qualification

The specialized professional, in addition to carrying out the traditional duties of the O.S.S., coordinates the nurse and the midwife, and administers prescribed therapies, whether intramuscular or subcutaneous, therapeutic baths, medical packs and rubs. Among the various duties of the O.S.S.S. operator are: recording and noting heart rate, respiratory rate and temperature; collecting excretions and secretions for diagnostic purposes; simple dressings, bandages and enemas; mobilization of dependent patients for the prevention of pressure sores and skin alterations; artificial respiration and external cardiac massage; care, washing and preparation of materials for sterilization; cleaning, disinfection and sterilization of equipment, medical devices and healthcare instruments; transport of biological material for diagnostic purposes; monitoring of intravenous drips. All of this obviously takes place under the supervision of the nurse or midwife.

The specialized professional may take part in public and private recruitment competitions (hospitals, clinics, local health authorities, nursing homes, home care services, recovery communities, family homes, residential communities, and school integration services).

TECHNICAL-PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Basics of ecology and environment, sustainable development, and any relevant sector-specific regulations

  • IT and web: theoretical knowledge and practical use of tools

  • Prevention and protection rules in the workplace (Legislative Decree 626/94 and subsequent amendments)

  • Basics of regulations on workers' rights and duties, also with reference to the modes and characteristics of standard and non-standard contracts. Collective bargaining

  • Basics of the current tax system

  • Basics of project financing: incentive laws, structural funds, self-employment
